ANNUAL or PERENNIAL describes the plant in the Northeast.
TROPICAL - Peace lily is an easy-care plant that tolerates low light, low humidity, and still blooms consistently. Its glossy lance-shape leaves arch gracefully from a central clump of stems. The white flowers are most common in summer, but may occur any time of year. As they age they turn green
TROPICAL - Persian shield thrives outdoors in humid climates in rich, well drained soil. It tends to get tall and fall over, so pinch back a few times in the first half of the growing season to induce branching and thicker, bushier foliage. If you don't care about the flowers (which aren't very showy anyway), pinch back anytime.
ANNUAL - Stock is appreciated for its cool, distinctive colors and exceptional fragrance in cool season gardens. It makes a good flower for late spring or summer flowering. A biennial treated as an annual, it's a native of the Mediterranean coast and a member of the mustard family. Pastel Colors.
ANNUAL - What makes these SunPatiens so special is they are a new species – a cross between traditional New Guinea impatiens and a wild impatiens. The plants have the good sized flower of a New Guinea but now have strong garden vigor that allows them to grow well in all summer conditions. Garden vigor and a slightly thicker leaf wall are the secret to impatiens sun and heat show. Great for summer.
ANNUAL - A 6–8ft twiner that usually sports golden-yellow blooms with dark eyes, hence the common name. 'Lemon Star' is a selection with the same dark eyes, but they are surrounded by clear, soft yellow, a color much easier to use in the garden. Plants are vigorous growers that will climb a trellis, pole, or tripod of bamboo stakes. Use them to add height to the back of a border or a large pot. Easy to grow, Thunbergia will bloom until frost, bringing flowers up to eye-level. Plants will also cascade out of hanging basket
ANNUAL - Attract butterflies and have fun doing it with big, bold, beautiful Mexican sunflower with big, lush foliage and smaller but still showy flowers in sunset colors that butterflies love. Put a cluster of these bodacious beauties in the back of the border to give it height and drama. Many of the taller types need staking to keep them upright. Plant them outdoors after all danger of frost has passed in a sunny spot with well-drained soil.
ANNUAL - Torenia forms a compact mound about a foot high with many branches. Leaves are oval or heart-shaped. The flowers look a bit like open-faced snapdragons with prominent markings on the petals. The most predominant color has been blue flowers, but newer varieties are pink, rose, light blue, and white.
Verbena is one of those garden essentials that bloom from spring to fall with very little fuss. In frost-free climates it is grown as a perennial, but most of us will have to grow it as an annual. Plants grow in clumps that reach a height of six to ten inches. Flowers can be mauve, purple, white, pink, apricot or red. Verbena is a popular hanging basket plant, and it also looks good in rock gardens or as an edging, and in window boxes
ANNUAL -Glossy leaves, stellar blue flowers, quick coverage -- periwinkle is an ideal coverage for shade. Its only flaw is that it's so popular it's become underappreciated.
Prepare the soil well prior to planting and add humus to retain moisture. Keep the plants cut back to encourage bushy growth, and to keep them within bounds. Periwinkle can become invasive.
ANNUAL - Their cheerful "faces," often whiskered or otherwise marked, brighten the dreariest day in spring. Use them at the front of beds or borders as edging plants, as bedding plants, in containers and window boxes, in herb gardens, in wild gardens and in rock gardens too. There is a multitude of forms, many now winter hardy in cold climates, in all sizes and colors. Cut back straggly stems and deadhead routinely to prolong blooming. They self-seed freely, but are not invasive. Violas do best in lightly shaded places in soil that remains moist.
ANNUAL - Zinnias are another member of the large Aster family of plants and originate in Mexico and the Southwest United States. They come in a form suitable for every garden situation, including single, double, cactus, dahlia, ruffles, and pompon. Colors include every shade except blue, and many are multicolored. Most are prolific bloomers that add beautiful color to the landscape
